USMST and ACSM Formalize Collaboration

The US Medical Soccer Team and the American College of Sports Medicine formalized their collaborative efforts in Indianapolis, IN on May 31, 2013 at the ACSM National Meeting. The groups will work together to further the message of Exercise is Medicine (exerciseismedicine.org), an initiative focused on encouraging health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients.

The guiding principles of EIM are extraordinary and commensurate with the fundamental professional and personal philosophies of USMST members. By joining forces with EIM and the ACSM, we hope to further convey the messages of EIM by advancing our community outreach efforts, develop toolkits to help educators and providers on fitness and nutrition, take the message abroad to our colleagues in the World Medical Football Federation during the Global Congress on Medicine and Health in Sport, and garner sponsorship for various educational and community efforts.

The US Medical Soccer Team is honing its football chops on the international stage, and to get to the ultimate goal of holding the Ferran Morrell Trophy crowning us World Medical Football Champions, we’ll need to continue to walk the walk. Exercise has always been a big part of our lives, and regardless of medical specialty, something we truly believe in. By formalizing this collaboration with EIM and the ACSM, we hope to show that Exercise truly is Medicine!
